i mean, i’ve heard ppl express disappointment with the switch but i’d hope a semipopular switch game would still be good quality compared to the average mobile game. (that said i think i have more hours on pvz2 than anygames i’ve spent actual money on)
My disappointment with the Switch is exactly that every game on it feels like a mobile game with production values that almost rival Nintendo games.
Thag Simmons
What I’ve seen of the Switch’s Mario and Zelda games are pretty far from feeling like mobile games.
Bruno
I honestly disagree. Both have gameplay loops made for people with very short attention spans. BotW’s primary gameplay is these microdungeon puzzles scattered about the world. This comes at the expense of large dungeons. Meanwhile Mario gives you a moon literally every minute or two.
Thag Simmons
Yeah when I think mobile game I’m thinking like fruit ninja or subway surfers, not big expansive open world titles. Am I mistaken about that?
Ymbrael
They’ve come quite a way, games like Genshin Impact and such are technically mobile games, and those could definitely be compared to games like BotW and TotK (though I’d still argue that the new Zelda games are slightly more mechanically dense, you could probably run them on top-of-the-line mobile hardware if they were written for it, not emulated of course since that takes way more than the native hardware to make work generally). The recent Pokemon games though, Legends of Arceus and Scarlet&Violet definitely have that lack of polish that could be associated with open world mobile games, but that’s more a Game Freak (the Pokemon studio branch) problem…
Kazuma Taichi
I’m under the impression that Bruno’s not talking about scope and size of the game, but rather the gamefeel and design philosophy
Yeah, by Booster’s backstabbing, manipulative, inconsiderate sister. She was super demanding about it and kinda said some really shitty things to Booster.
How dare she! Doesn’t she know that her sibling’s roommate has “roommate’s sister’s Nintendo” rights?!
a/snow/mous/e
The nerve of some people, to go around acting like they “own” the property of their twin’s roommate’s roommate’s twin! It’s completely unacceptable!
PlainMarie
I *just* now realized that Walky and his roommate Booster are both twins. I mean, I knew they were both twins, but they are living together and both have a built-in compare and contrast sibling. Opportunity for bonding or?
Booster seems overly intuitive and analytical (?), while their sibling is possibly oblivious. Um, Walky, is also too oblivious? “Discuss.”
I feel like before the fake girlfriend plan Walky could’ve easily asked for his own Nintendo at any time. Just another reason that plan backfired. What other secret misfortunes did it create?
guess it’s not a priority when you have one someone could borrow for free. tho even as a roommate if i didn’t know walky better idk if i’d rly let him borrow someting as pricey as a switch unless he promised to not lieave the room with it or wash/wipe down his hands before nad after playing lol
I think Walky has a laptop and Switch games are not hardware intensive. He can download yuzu and go to town. It’s astonishing how easy it is. He can even play games early if he knows where to search. ToK notoriously leaked like w weeks before its launch.
Okay, but imagine if Sarah was playing that Nintendo, it would be her roommate’s boyfriend’s roommate’s girlfriend’s brother’s roommate’s sister’s Nintendo.
Honestly, DoA is pretty consistent about the passage of time. I know many other comics that either go at a breakneck pace, or tap dance around explaining how much time has passed in-universe since the first strip (while still acknowledging it passes).
well maybe lucy and him had a standing plan to either always meet later in the day/weekend if he either didn’t sleep in or stay in for the morning , tho nothing wrong with having some alone time
Morning cartoons stopped being worth watching in 1986.
TheHorseCouncil
As someone who watched morning cartoons all through the 90s and into the 00s to the point that i had a schedule of which channels had what on saturday and sunday i just wanna say: i disagree.
maybe he was more of a ‘watching cartoons’ guy growing up and the occasional small collectible toy but not enough for it to be an expensive hobby like on amber/ethan’s level as opposed to a bunch of gamer stuff (walky streamer in his future is possible tho lol) [if not being just a ‘rambunctious’ kid, even if not athetletic/jockey, spend more of his childhood running around and playing outside as opposed to stereotypical nerdy stuff]
or this takes place in a time line where the nintendo switch is fairly new and still kinda at a high price to not spend it on a college student outside of like a christmas gift
If not his mom thinking he was teh perfect’ studious’ child (despite never having to study) and even tho he didn’t exactly hide some nerdy aspects (tho he probably did talk up his ‘manly’ side a bit more) or like “David would never waste time on games” or so
Other than school stuff, clothes, and stuff related to cartoons, Walky doesn’t really have anything.
He tends to spend his own money (from where he gets it) on food.
And I’m not to sure his parents buy him a bunch of stuff; his care package had the personal gift of cookies, while Sal’s care package was an impersonal gift card.

Le Roomie is under no obligation to assist in brand maintenance. I checked their roomie agreement.

I have sadly almost gotten hooked on Evony, which is like if StarCraft were a gatcha game
Too Old To Be Cool
Stolen??!!

Booster returned it awhile ago.

He might think so.
But we know Booster gave it back to Charlie (it’s Charlie, right?).
John Campbell
Given back.

! And… I just realized the same thing after reading your comment. Seems so obvious now…

About Walky, even. :O

He has a special set of skills….

Need to send this to my roommate (who has played more TotK on my switch than I have)
Rose by Any Other Name
I got TotK back in June… haven’t played it yet. Been too busy.

Life is about setting priorities. Are we sure yours are aligned properly?

As I don’t have it yet, let me borrow it. After all, I am your brother’s roommate

Not sure Charlie would appreciate nacho cheese on the joy-cons of her switch drift is bad enough.

I think Walky’d prefer using his roommate’s sister’s Nintendo. It seems more “Walky-ish”, somehow. Like it’s his trademark or something.
DailyBrad
Oh yeah, I forgot, Booster returned it to her.
Also, luckily, a Switch isn’t *that* expensive, you can probably donate some plasma or something, dude.
Quirdry Tawks
That’s been a lot harder thing to do since The World Basically Ended.

No big deal; just download an emulator and play some SNES roms

Tbf reasons for going back to the she’s emulator significantly went down when they remade both Trials of Mana and LiveALive.

He has many low-intensity identity crises just to mix things up every now and again.

I wonder how many Nachito crumbs were on that Switch before Booster returned, I mean, cleaned off before returning.

RassilonTDavros
Honestly, I’m so used to jokes about how slow this comic’s time-scale is that I’m actually shocked to learn that two full weeks have passed.
NGPZ
It don’t run linearly relative to our own, more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly, timey wimey… stuff.
Needfuldoer

Heh. The time-signifier is probably the most important part of this strip for me, really.

That’s what you get for waking up Saturday morning.

Right? What’s up with that? Doesn’t he know Saturday starts at noon?

I’m mostly surprised that Walky doesn’t have one of his own. He likes video games and his parents buy him whatever he wants.

Bad sign. What you wanna bet they’re not out of nachitos, too?
Random832
i think that’s the bag of nachitos in his hand, presumably bought the day before so he wouldn’t have to leave his room today.
HueSatLight
look at that bag, it’s off-brand russian nachitos: Nyetchidas.
