I’m not saying they need to fuck in the street (it’s cold outside), but a little light making out in the nearest unoccupied nook/cranny might help ease the tension.
I love that Joe’s having to show his sensitive self to her, and Joyce is needing to show her thirsty side to him. The two are intermingling their insecurities and it’s glorious.
But I feel like it’s too early in the new story arc for happy endings. Last arc was about the Evil Dads and Amazi-girl. We don’t know what the antagonist for this book will be yet, though the emerging theme is “people change, but friends don’t want to let them.” Which is a fine theme but doesn’t quite seem like enough. I feel like there’s at least one more shoe left to fall.
And that should happen right as this cute budding romance hits the “complication” stage. When things that were going well start going horribly wrong.

-Has major anxiety issues when she feels like she’s not in control of things she cares about.
-Cares about Joyce. A lot.
-Has a tendency towards logical but rigid thinking, and is just prideful enough to resist efforts to change her mind once she’s made a decision.
-Knew Joe at his worst and long ago settled her opinion of him as an irredeemable playboy.
She’s gonna pressure them both to end this for Joyce’s “own good”. And as that fails to work, is going to double down until her anxiety triggers a meltdown.
Only question is if said meltdown comes before or AFTER Joyce has enough of it and snaps at her. Either way, Dorothy’s gonna feel miserable and powerless. And that’s gonna suck to watch, not gonna lie.
