        I misread “sugary cereal” as “surgery cereal”, and in the split second before I caught my mistake, I envisioned a brand of cereal shaped like spleens and kidneys and cut-off hands and whatnot, and it would turn the milk blood red, and I thought “Well, SURE, I guess that’s a thing then”, and then I was strangely disappointed that it wasn’t a thing.

          Dunno… I watched the whole first season, but apart from the fight scenes everything else was kinda boring and not particularly well written. The protagonists were kinda dumb and so easily manipulated by the bad guys, and I definitely didn’t care for the romance, so I just didn’t go on… Should I give it a second chance?

          The first and second seasons of Korra were… eh… but it really hit its stride in the third season, which was pretty amazing and had a really interesting group of antagonists. I would watch season two just because events that occurred there influence the third season, but if you decide to skip that season, at least watch the Avatar Wan episodes. They tell the story of the very first Avatar, and the animation style was strongly influenced by Chinese brush painting and was extremely beautiful.

          Alfred Hitchcock made a better movie about angry dinosaurs 30 years before Jurassic Park. One of my main complaints about Jurassic Park, from a movie-only perspective, is that it has a plot driven almost entirely by stupidity (why use electric fences when very thick panes of highly translucent bulletproof glass would do?).

    FWIW, I suspect that Dina nad Becky alike are both not likely to go much beyond the ‘high school sweethearts’ behaviour track for a long while just because neither of them are emotionally ready to do anything else.

      Lulu’s right about museum dates! I took my girlfriend to a natural history museum because she likes T-Rexes and had never seen an actual T-Rex skeleton. She loved it.

      (On a side note, one of the first gifts she ever got me was a Firefly t-shirt with dinosaurs on it, and her favorite character from my own webcomic is a dinosaur-themed superheroine. Yup… I gots me a dino-lover, and I couldn’t be happier!)

    So something that’s gone uncommented is Amber’s reaction to Dina telling her she has a girlfriend; specifically, the line “and to you, that means…?”

    I think Amber has a little bit of that “Dina is strange and needs to be helped” mentality in her, stemming from her own experiences with social anxiety.

      I don’t think it’s that she thinks Dina needs to be helped. It seems to me more that Amber hasn’t seen Dina really show much emotion at all nor much interest in being around other people and has a much different view of things. So, while Amber knows what most people would mean if they said they had a girlfriend, Dina could mean something else which is why she asked.

        Also Dina does not always pay attention to social norms, and “girlfriend” actually has both a romantic and a platonic meaning that might be needed to sort through even with someone who does, anyway.

        That makes sense! Since a ‘girlfriend’ can be interpreted as either a platonic friend who or a romantic partner, and Ambster has made it clear in-strip before that she enjoys not thinking of Dina as a sexual being.

        Amber, like Joyce, is very much in love with and having to get over Ethan.
        A component of that relationship was Amber, like Ethan, having a not-so-platonic attraction to particular Transformers and other media common to their generation.

        Personally, I see it as the equivalent to Gen-Xers having the Slave-Leia image filed away in the mental shoe box of “things that unexpectedly assist arousal.”

        (I observe this Amber, similar to the Shortpacked.Amber as being very in touch with her libido AND perversion but, this one has more separated libido from violent urges but, less integrated libido with her regular persona.)

        Anywho, I think it was just: “Dina seems to have found some who can combine that particular hobby and arousal and it does not seem so bad so, I wonder: Does my f-buddy likes that hobby, that way, too? I should check because this will help me to be even more interesting…”

      but dina wants help, sometimes. she just doesnt want to be invalidated for it. she and amber have already opened up about their respective differences and amber was the one who showed dina how to show sympathy via light physical contact. i dont think it was out of line in their friendship for amber to say this.

      plus, dina has previously told amber about A) not having had sexual feelings for anyone before & B) wanting to not be seen as abnormal, which are two dots that plenty of people would probably guess are connected and be worried about, even though theyre not.

    I remember reading IW! when I was 19 and thinking that Walky and Joyce watching morning cartoons together was romantic as sh#t.

    I didn’t want to to go bars and get pissed and have casual sex. I just wanted someone understand the importance of round eyes and stories with a message and proper character design.

It’s not like she’s using their current nicknames either. That just strikes me as completely thoughtless and uncaring. What if everyone started calling her “Beckerly” or “Rebeccalodon”?

      Well as someone who picks up a lot of weird nicknames, I don’t think it’s that annoying. And the people I know who make up nicknames for everyone seem to be pretty chill about getting nicknames in return. It only gets annoying when you ask people not to call you something, or express dislike with a nickname and they refuse to acknowledge your request.

      As for how everyone likes Becky’s nicknames nobody in comic has seemed to complain. And according to earlier this chapter, Dina seems to be pretty fine with being known as Dino Girl.

      I think I see what you’re saying here (but please correct me if I’m wrong), a few years back I worked with a guy who kept calling me “smiler” (at the time life wasn’t working out quite as well as it could have been to say the lest) and it really ticked me off, I asked him to stop calling me that and he wouldn’t and it wasn’t until I dropped my shoulder into him (I was taller and heavier then he was) and knocked him on his back that he got the idea I really didn’t like it.

      I didn’t like it because when he called me that it reminded me of what was happening in my life, he was trying to label me something I wasn’t, the utter disrespect of the guy to completely disregard what I was saying and that he thought it was just a big joke

      The thing with nicknames is how they’re used, Becky use of nicknames towards Dorothy seems a little on the mean side to me( but then I’m probably over-sensitive it) whereas towards Amber it seems like its more on the fun side, trying to establish a personal connection with Amber?
