          Hm, how do you want to to define “reptile”. Classical “Reptilia” does not include dinosaurs, but then classical Reptilia is paraphyletic. A modern, monophyletic Reptilia that covers all/most things usually considered reptiles *does* include dinos, and birds as well (but *not* mammals). Some advocate just throwing out the term Reptilia altogether…

          Reptiles are nothing on “fish” though. You have to bust them up into three separate groups to get anywhere… any larger group that includes all three “fish” groups will cover all vertebrates, I believe. The fish are a lie!

          Ah, it seems that when I see Dina, I channel her a bit.

Even if it is the case that the common usage conventions of the word cannot parsimoniously be reduced to single set of meaningfully unique traits, the word itself, in a common-use sense is not impoverished. What does become clear, however, is the necessity of distinguishing phylogenetic nomenclature from the more democratic but less precise usage conventions of the general public.

      I don’t “ship”, in the sense of getting emotionally invested in fictional potential relationships, but… I honestly think Ruth/Billie is a better and healthier relationship than Ethan/Joyce. And, for all I joke about it, Ruth has been seriously creeping me out since roughly the elevator.

    So there’s a Drama Tag variant in this universe, I see.

    Only I’d wager it’s less of an anti-drama tag and more of a time-shift tag. The type that allows the cast to constantly stay up to date with current real world trends while being perpetually in their same position in life. Never REALLY aging, never moving on – having plenty of drama, mind you, but never actually growing to the extent where they’ll move on from this universe.

    That’s my theory, anyway. The tag may not exist because “cancer”, but it may exist because “they don’t want their girl to grow up and leave home, and they want to be around forever”. And forcing everyone to stay still while the surrounding universe moves forward = easy way to pull that off.

    Said theory is probably completely and totally wrong, but I have an overactive imagination that thinks of these things and fleshes them out on whims.

        I do it with frappes. There are no bubbles, but the ice suddenly and violently explodes after a second of blowing with a fantastic “pop” sound.

        Remember that the danger level of this idea varies with the type of milkshake.

        Thin type that’s basically flavoured milk: Low, might get some minor milk spatter on you. With care and a gentle approach you can safely foam almost the entire glass and have it form an impressive afro-like head towering out of the top.

        McDonald’s type: keep as far away from the top of the cup as possible as those bubbles get pretty big and tend to explode more violently. Overflow is a definite danger. Makes a good sound though, like a “bloop” from the briny deep.

        Ultra thick streetcar-diner type that barely classify as liquid: If your lungs are even strong enough to actually make an impression, I’d still disrecommend it. The entire shake is, after a slow and agonising build-up where the top starts to dome like an overdue volcano, going to end up exploding all over you, your date/friends/family, and anything else in a 6ft radius.

    IRL I knew a male version of Dina. He’s a nice guy but he seems invisible most of the time even when he’s in a group. I start calling him ninja because he can suddenly speak out and surprise several of my friends who didn’t realize he’s there all the time.

    Like Dina he’s also silent most of the time. But he’s a fun guy to talk with. He’s not into Dinosaurs though.

      Also it’s easier to justify things like double dates to a Pizza Place as opposed to a toy store.

      I mean, maybe some of you have gone on dates to toy stores but it is pretty uncommon and doesn’t seem like it would appeal to the whole cast.

    Any guy that makes the mistake of saying hello to Joyce has just gained a stalker. Any guy that actually accompanies her anywhere, is on a date. Also notice that all guys, for whatever reason, develope a major loss of spine around Joyce…except Mike, he studies her and then wanders away: and I am not sure, but I don’t remember Joyce every ‘latching on” on to Mike the way she does every other male.
    Yay, Galasso has his Pamela here.

      I don’t recall Joe ever losing his spine – though he was caught by surprise by a vicious and unprovoked beatdown, carried out with the aid of Mike. In his other encounters with her he always had the upper hand.

          What you have to consider about opinions are (…trigger warning for worn out old adages) that they’re like assholes. Everyone has them and they’re almost guaranteed to cause offence when you show them off unless you’re very careful. Or are a cat. Or a baboon.

          Anyway, had a look, not bad, not exceptional, quality strangely inconsistent, not sure why you’re after pimping it up on someone else’s comments feed as there’s no ads or other self promotion. Is in serious need of an “NSFW” label (plentiful boobs, a few crotch shots) more than for opinions. There’s some minor self expression on there that’s arguably a bit prejudiced and closed-minded, but then again it might just be a verbatim Tumblr.TXT type quote. As well as something from your cultural background…

          (just my opinion 9_9 those things can be hard to shake)

          However thanks to that I did come across this delightful dA gallery of cute and cheeky but otherwise perfectly clean (well at least for me, without a dA login… there might be adult stuff I’m blocked from) cheesecake by an entirely different artist. So that’s something. I suggest people go there instead.

    You know the preview picture of Joyce crying in the toilet has me somewhat concerned for how this lunch will turn out. Glasso’s seems to be a place of misfortune for Joyce.

        That’s kind of the whole point of her character, at least at the point of introduction in Roomies/DoA. A world where everyone is actually perfect and has a nice time is what the still-drama-tag-equipped universe in SP! is all about. (Literally) Agonisingly dull.

      It kind of makes me pity him. I was at a PFLAG meeting once where someone spoke who’d been (heterosexually) married for 20 years, with kids, all because she denied who she was in college. She couldn’t deny it anymore. Very hard on everyone, at this point.

    I’m curious if I missed something here. When Joyce was interested in Joe, she insisted that a chaperone must be present. Never mind that it was Mike or how that went down ultimately.

    What is causing Joyce to handle Ethan differently? I just mean from the caution/chaperoning/etc. perspective.

      I see a couple possibilities:

      1) Another couple will be arriving soon, and she feels secure enough as long as the whole date won’t consist of being alone with him.

      2) She regrets the Mike/Joe incident, and wants to avoid a repeat.

      3) Her dream revealed how repressed she really is. Maybe she’s decided she wants to be a little more confident. This is a little step on the path to progress.

      4) Her gaydar is subconsciously going off, and she’s just in denial about it. Somehow she just KNOWS that Ethan is not going to try to put the moves on her.

      Dina didn’t come from anywhere. She was always here. When the universe was created, Dina was sitting next to it and watching. She is eternal. She is also everywhere. Like the air we breathe, Dina is always with us wherever we go. Only she’s also everywhere in space. She’s more like atoms that way, but larger and interested in dinosaurs.

      Universal constants*: Ethan is tall and well built, Joyce is surprisingly petite and only looks bulkier because of her relative dimensions, Dina is always under everyone’s radar until she either makes a sound, touches them, or appears directly in front of their face.
