There’s nothing wrong with TTG!. It’s just that teenage fans of the original show who are now in their late 20’s just never accepted that they weren’t the target audience anymore. It’s like comparing Fantasia with Bugs Bunny, they’re both good but for entirely different reasons.
Fun fact: TTG! is now in it’s 5th season which is as long as the original series ran, and it has nearly four times as many episodes (which are admittedly shorter), so they must be doing something right.
BBCC
TTG has a pretty standard episode order – about 26 episodes per season, two segments per episode. But they tend to air the segments on their own and so it looks like there’s a fuckoff huge number of episodes (meanwhile, Steven Universe and OK KO Let’s Be Heroes actually have fuckoff huge episode orders, but their episodes are only about 10 minutes so it’s a fairer trade off). Spongebob Squarepants would probably achieve something similar if it aired its segments separately. Teen Titans had a pretty standard number of episodes in its day too – about 13 episodes (that’s about the same as a Codename: Kids Next Door season, which aired around the same time). The difference is that while other shows with similar episode orders tended to split shows into segments (again, like Kids Next Door), Teen Titans used the full half hour.
Annonymouse
Also of note that the “Target” audience is not the same as the actual viewership.
Just like MLPFIM that created Bronies TT had/has a following in the 20+ crowd that were into animation/comics/DC and stories for those not undergoing electroshock therapy. So they will now be in their 30s to 40s.
BBCC
I was mostly talking about episodes per season, since Kaidah brought up how TTG had more episodes, but this is true. Although it’s also been shown that CN will cancel shows that aren’t doing well in their target audience, regardless of other viewer demographics, so it’s a valid point to bring up.
It would also solve Ruth’s problems with having an authority she neither wants nor deserves, and all the other hall residents’ problems with Ruth having an authority she neither wants nor deserves.
thejeff
No, no. They just trade rooms. Ruth stays RA for Read, Lucy doesn’t take over. They just live in different rooms.
Jed!
Doesn’t she need the RA stipend for tuition and the free housing?
Meagan
Someone’s tracking economic problems/factors. 🙂
You can always tell the people who’ve struggled with money cuz they don’t forget it exists in fictional universes.
thejeff
It’s not clear actually. Ruth’s never really shown any signs of it being about money specifically, I think.
She needs it because Sir demands she have it. I assume he’s covering her tuition anyway and could easily cover her housing as well if he wasn’t an abusive asshole.
I know! Such a weird group but I’m really impressed with how it’s working out. Lucy is the kind of personality Ruth needs right now. Her other relationships are so messy. And clearly Lucy just likes to be liked!
Can’t wait for Billie to show up and ruin it though 😀
Actually, I can picture Billy showing up in her room all ready to be annoyed by Lucy only to find out that no one is there. Then she sits down on her bed and just stares numbly at the distance because she can’t find anything to distract her from her inner demons anymore.
thejeff
There’s always something to distract her from her inner demons.
Yeah, I love it too! It’s such an unexpected group, but it kinda makes sense in hindsight! It’s also great to see Ruth and Carla (though Ruth especially) go for it.
As if Americans even know what Canadian bacon is, never mind the glory of peameal bacon.
Danielle
canadian bacon is basically bologna
BBCC
Nah, bologna is typically finely ground to the point of the absence of noticeable chunks of fat (theoretically anyways). That’s not Canadian bacon.
Needfuldoer
Yeah, Canadian/back bacon is basically seasoned, filleted pork chops. All the piggy goodness of American/belly/streaky bacon, but with a higher meat-to-fat ratio.
(Thank you both for spelling “bologna” properly! Oscar Mayer would be proud.)
BBCC
Sort of. Canadian bacon is usually from the back, while pork chops are more from the loin, particularly the area close to the spine and sometimes contains a rib or part of the vertebrae. Though Canadian bacon often includes parts of the loin taken from behind the back, it tends to be leaner and, traditionally, is always smoked, cured, and fully cooked. It also comes in the more delicious peameal form, where it’s been wet cured and rolled in yellow peameal, though that’s not usually smoked.
And before anybody says ham – nah, ham’s the ass cheek of the pig, not the back. 😛 Specifically, ham is a leg cut that has been cured. It may or may not be smoked, but it’s from the wrong part of the pig.
Geneseepaws
Thank you for laying that out so clearly, and completely, I am smiling before breakfast, and it is a glorius day that starts with learning mroe about Pea Meal. See you at Tim Horton’s!
BBCC
I learned about this because I once saw a picture of what an American friend THOUGHT was Canadian bacon and I was HORRIFIED.
Speed Racer is a polarizing movie. Either you love it as the glorious spectacle that it is, or hate it for not being the close adaptation of the TV series that it isn’t.
This movie’s biggest problem was that it was released exactly one week after ‘Iron Man’, which sucked all the air out of the room, metaphorically speaking.
In about two weeks, watch for a DYW tweet about how his readers are such nitpickers.
Yumi
Willis: “My readers are such nitpickers.”
Me, sliding a printed out copy of the two versions of the strip across the table to Willis ten days from now: “That’sa me.”

Still no Dexter and Monkey Master tags? 😛

In THIS room? It’s Starfire that deserves the tag.

Altho, preferably NOT the TTG! one.

Oh just go have pizza and movies with the chipper chick you dour jackasses 😛
HMRC4EVR
Wow. Hell of a movie to just jump to. I mean, if Ruth is on some medication, that’s the LAST movie you might want to show her.
3-I
Aw, I love that movie.
Ana Chronistic
It’s a great movie!
It’s a STUPID movie, but a great one!
(inb4 I’m in Disney and the wifi can’t be buggered)
Sam
You can’t prove she said that thing she said only two strips ago.
Doctor_Who
Ruth pulls out her phone, goes to dumbingofage.com, accidentally breaks the universe.
Bagge
“Accidentally”
ShinyNeen
I’m sure it’s not the first time. I mean, how long has the comic been around? Universe’s probably broken dozens of times.
Matthew Davis
I claim right of salvage.
Clif
Yeah, but where did you register your claim?
Kamino Neko
It’s been around a little under 2 months. Duh.
Dean
She said that A screen was broken. There are other screens.
King Daniel
Like window screens. Or Windows screens.
Doctor_Who
Lucy as an RA would be great, except I think I’d be more intimidated by a week old kitten soaked in milk.
Of course, I suppose it’s possible to rule in ways other than by fear but…nah.
ian livs
I’d do whatever she wanted just because I’d feel like absolute garbage for making such a sweet person feel disappointed in me, tbh. 🙂
Meagan
Sounds a bit unhealthy, mate. That’s how the sweet ones getcha.
Bagge
Ruling in other ways than fear? I’m sure if that was possible we would have seen Ruth do it by now.
dethtolldotmid
Ruling by guilt is how my sweet old grandma managed a household. Helps if you’re Catholic.
Annonymouse
I would not consider that helping though if grandma was Jewish – oy vay.
BBCC
Oh, come now! Where’s the fun in THAT?
Besides, what if the residents get the silly idea that they’re PEOPLE? 😛
MatthewTheLucky
Plot twist: Lucy and Ruth somehow trade rooms.
King Daniel
That would solve the authority issues with Ruth and Billie’s relationship that necessitated Billie having to move here in the first place.
And, like, nothing else about it, but.
MatthewTheLucky
It would also solve Ruth’s problems with having an authority she neither wants nor deserves, and all the other hall residents’ problems with Ruth having an authority she neither wants nor deserves.

What a weird trio of friends

(Only, Lucy is not flawed, she’s too good for this sinful world)
Shen Hibiki
I would count that as a flaw… =P

It’s called booze.
Clif
But it’s not like it’s a problem or anything.
General Tekno
She has good taste in movies.
Also, I love that the genuinely nice person in the room is getting “yes let’s” responses.
ShinyNeen
Yeah, I love it too! It’s such an unexpected group, but it kinda makes sense in hindsight! It’s also great to see Ruth and Carla (though Ruth especially) go for it.

what does ruth even like on pizza?

Canadian bacon, mostly just so she can insist that it’s just called bacon.

She definitely knows what she likes on pizza, but maybe YOU should tell her, uh, YOUR pizza preferences, and you’ll see if they match up.
fire_daws
Femurs.
Xenocide
She likes it to be covered in maple syrup.
Ethics Gradient
She probs like everything covered in maple syrup, including Billie 🙂
I feel that would make a good slipshine.
Stephen Bierce
(Because it’s running through my head at this instant) *plays The Police’s “King of Pain” on the hacked Muzak*

The internet says the movie is from 2008.
I haven’t seen it either way, and the internet seems to think that’s a good thing as well, though I do like the directors.
Yumi
Is Lucy just wrong or is the timeline of this particular movie different in the DoA universe
Marsh Maryrose
Is anyone taking bets that tonight or tomorrow, Willis will tweet something about how commenters are complaining that he didn’t check IMDB?
(Me. I am taking that bet.)

Maybe in this universe they knew how big Iron Man was going to be and delayed the film to 2009.
foamy
I saw IM in theatres and Speed Racer on a rental, which tells you I hate technology, but anyway, Speed Racer got dumped on critically and I love it.

Here She Comes
Here comes “Ruth Lessick”
She’s a demon on wheels…
Or should that be “Carla Rutten”?
ValdVin
Mission accomplished. That earworm has been in my head since this strip posted and you’ve only reinforced it.
MLEst1
The strip currently says 2008. Did I miss the good stuff again?
Marsh Maryrose
Yes. When it went up, it said 2009.
