$30-80 is far more likely, given the apparent material (while it looks light and thin when worn, though it’s hard to tell for sure off that alone; However, the ones being carried by the drone are compacted in a way that makes it seem fairly certain that the jackets are light jackets or even windbreaker jackets, which would put them in with jackets that generally range closer to $40) and the fact that it was a free-with-purchase promo item (which, while sometimes super nice, generally aren’t the most expensive items).
Once you get to the range of $150 and up, you’re generally talking branded natural leather jackets, thicker natural leather jackets (eg, decent bomber jackets), or top quality non-leather jackets. Basic natural leather actually already has a fairly reliable presence by $80, and the more expensive jackets generally discount steeply once/if they hit discount or clearance, so generally the price range you listed is only one you come across if you’re prone to buying specific types of jackets or from higher end retailers.
HeySo
To restate that last paragraph, I mean that higher end pricing is generally exclusive to specific brands or styles, and even then only if they’re not discounted. Most jacket styles won’t break $100 without branding or rare materials.
Also, that “(while” in the first paragraph shouldn’t have a “while” there, sorry. 😛
well, given that it’s Ruttech, it could be an entirely different material (e.g. Tony Stark’s “I’ve discovered a new element”) and/or marketing fail (e.g. my prior employer whose marketing person went overboard and ordered LITERALLY THOUSANDS of branded “can cozies”–which LITERALLY NO ONE uses bc if you have a can drink, it’s either getting emptied immediately or not quickly enough that can-shaped insulation will do much if anything)
HeySo
I always thought the point of can cozies was to let you drink cold drinks during cold weather without freezing your hands. In retrospect, I’m not sure why anyone would consume cold beverages while standing out in the cold, anyway.
..still makes more sense than using it for maintaining the can’s temperature [in warmer temperatures], though, for the reason you mentioned. 😛
Interestingly, a standard can drink is 12fl oz while the typical bottled drink is closer to 11, so they should get consumed quicker, but maybe people sip bottles more than they do cans.
..Stark is a headache-inducing individual as a hero, but as a layperson in Marvelverse, I’d be pretty devoted to buying Starktech. I mean, the guy basically produces stuff at a level comparable to a fantasy setting enchanter. It’s magic, dammit, and I want it. 😛
Catman
Consider this jacket do come free with a motorcycle, so there is a possibility that this jacket is to be worn on a motorcycle.
In that case it could easily be multilayered cotton or even leather. Given my 3 layer racesuit cost 500 (nzd so about 340 usd) and this is basically half of that (if it is multilayered cotton) an estimate of 150 seems pretty reasonable, and you can fold that stuff pretty thin.
It also isn’t out of the question for a top end motor company, which I’m going to assume Ruttech motors is because Carla says it is and I believe her, to have an offer where you get something worth 100 dollars when you buy something that’s probably gonna cost you many times that. Like a bike is going to set you up under back a couple of grand, at least, a hundred dollar jacket isn’t going to hurt their profit.
HeySo
I said “more likely”. I do have awareness of where motorcycle apparel falls in the scope of things and, yeah, the really good jackets (be they intended for thwarting wind upon a motorcycle or for general cold weather) start retailing (before discounts) at $300+ USD. I’ve just personally never encountered or heard of a company giving away a top end jacket before, but I have seen several lower end freebies.
Likewise, any decent (especially from the perspective of insulation) leather jacket I’ve seen has taken up twice the space, both when worn and folded. Ruttech is branded, so the list price could be fairly high, but I wouldn’t put high expectations on the material.
Moreover, we can see Billie and Carla wear the jacket zipped up, all about the indoors, where others are going around casually in t-shirts. Off that alone, we can infer that the insulation isn’t likely too heavy and, off that, we can assume the quality and style is more likely to fall in the lower range of things.
That said, if I’ve got the timeline and region recalled right, the temperatures they’re having within the comic should be between a 40F and 60F range right now, so we can also argue for the jackets not likely being low-end windbreakers.
I don’t imagine the jacket’d break the $120 range, in any case, but maybe we can get a Word of Willis on the matter at some point. As Ana noted, Ruttech isn’t exactly a normal company, after all, so it could be some hyper-high-end super-breathable-yet-super-insulating jacket. 😛

Didn’t see this post before posting mine below, but…lightweight motorcycle jackets don’t tend to be thin windbreakers, because they are designed to offer protection in a crash. They are usually heavy-duty material made into a mesh so that you can get wind FLOW, but if you crash, you have a decent chance of maintaining your skin in one continous piece. They can fold reasonably thin if you take out the removable pads that almost all models come with, but they run expensive. It’s not just a thin layer of fabric, it’s a thin layer of fabric designed to withstand friction with the asphalt at 50mph+ despite allowing ventilation so you don’t overheat while sitting above a small container of constant fiery explosions 3ft above black asphalt that’s been baking in the sun for hours.
ruhrow
It’s a motorcycle jacket, so likely not TOO thin of a material. Motorcycle jackets operate at a pretty different price point – a light, durable mesh jacket of any brand for riding in the summer is usually a couple hundred. Leather jackets are even more – though I’ve found some good deals out there in the past of only $200 or so for rejected custom jobs.
Damn, now I want one too.
….
I can’t be the first person to suggest this as a Merch possibility, can I? Naw – someone probably did when the jacket first showed up with Sal.
Are their limitations to the methodology?

Okay, so Singularikitty is the offspring of Choo-Choo bear from Something Positive and Sprinkles from Girls With Sling Shots. Some of the characters from Girls with Slingshots show up in a Questionable Content strip but it being canon is questionable. https://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=2986
Cholma
But Singularkitty is in the Walkyverse, right? DoAverse is different. I read all those comics, but my memory is shit, so I’m trying hard to even remember singularkitty. That was Leslie’s & Robin’s cat, that eats everything, right? (Fun Fact: my shitty memory makes reading the It’s Walky! & GWS reruns fun, as it makes most of them like I’m reading them for the first time again)
Some1
Yes exactly, if Girls with Slingshots does in fact exist within the QC verse then the characters of Questionable Content cannot live in the DOAverse. Because they would already live in the Walkyverse.
Oops…not sure how I borked that HTML…but you know where to look, now.

Faye has a tag in DoA. More to the point, Dina has a Coffee of Doom t-shirt.
It has to be an AU, though, because in DoA, Faye’s Dad is still alive.
Needfuldoer
Even if the prime QC/Something Positive/Girls with Slingshots universe crossed over with the Dumbiverse, those comics would have to take place several years in DoA’s future. Faye’s dad is still alive (he died while she was college age), and she’s closer to 30 than 20 in QC at this point. (Never mind the more fantastic elements of the QC universe, like sentient humanoid AIs, giant space stations, and amorphous pink felines.)
We’re all just floating inside Tommy Westphall’s snow globe.
I choose to imagine this explains how Sal’s presumably cheap, used bike came with a jacket. The drones just monitor all second-hand purchases and zoom in with the new owner’s free jacket.
Privacy concerns? What are those? Do they need jackets too? THERE ARE SO MANY JACKETS.
Considering what Rutech’s analogue gets up to in Shortpacked! and Carla describing them as “overeager”… I wouldn’t be surprised if that drone has an onboard AI capable of collision avoidance… and if you tick it off enough, you wake up in nearby forest. You can’t expect a drone to haul someone all the way to the Amazon, after all.

As drones get more ubiquitous, both the injuries and the lawsuits will get likewise.
I will note that the Ruttech drone’s blades have no safety guard, and it is flying in a fairly confined area.
