So, when are the Dumbiverse Amber and the Walkiverse Amber going to do an “Amazi-Girl of Two Worlds”?
Justin
anyone else find it odd that after like, weeks of danny bashing, he makes a very decisive and good decsion, (which even Willis acknowledged) and most everyone is discussing Amber’s vision problems? 😛
…good work Danny. you got me in your corner at least.
Alan Lafond
You’re not the only one. He’s not my favorite, but I still like him. I would put him in my top 10, right after Amber, Dina, Bille, Ruth, and Mike.
The_Master
That’s not ten, mate

Or “Amazi-Women” to use the Marvel version

Wow, good recall.

Also, the Walkyverse takes place, for the most part, during actual calendar years, since which contact lens technology may have advanced a bit to where we are today.

I find it amusing that the sci-fi universe has a more realistic portrayal of a real life super hero than the realistic universe.
PureMajora
I beg to differ. I see nothing realistic in Dexter and Monkey Master.
I’m legally blind so not even glasses can help me but I can more or less get around with just a bit of help from my white cane, I bet Amber’s sight is a damn sight better than mine.
Bit of a disclamer before my question/comment:
What I’m about to say might be considered as offensive to you and possibly to others that visit this site as well. Let me say that I don’t mean to be offensive, but I’m just extremely curious. And I can’t really word this question right in my mind without it sounding offensive eithe, so I ask for your forgiveness ahead of time.
Considering that you can read this comic, how do you adjust your screen so that it’s visible (or easier to read)?
Are you trying to make the print larger so it’s easier to read?  With Firefox, if you operate the scroll wheel on your mouse while holding down the ‘CTRL’ key that will change the size of the font.
If the font isn’t sharp (fuzzy) that sounds like a monitor problem and might need to be taken to the Geek Squad.
BRob
Thanks man- no need for cheater glasses- us old folks have a hard time with that print- Why did Firefox never tell me this! You are now my AmaziBill! Thx!
The_Master
Or perhaps somewhere that fixes computers well at a reasonable price.
Kisai
Only 10% of legally blind people have no vision. Someone who is legally blind basically wouldn’t be able to get corrective lenses good enough see more than 20ft away more or less.
Amber is more likely to be near sighted, in which means something close to punch is perfectly visible.
Exactly, one the legally blind scale where 0 is 100% blind and 10 is bare minimum reduction of sight needed to be classed as legally blind in Australia, I would rate an 8, which is why I can do things like shopping mostly without assistance but not be behind the wheel of a car.
Also , glasses haven’t been effective in improving my sight for several years now.
@Broken Products: I have a 27 inch screen which is less than 2 feet away from my face, I have set the default screens so it is gold on black to reduce the visual distortion, ticked the “Ignore font size specified for webpages” box and depending on the website the zoom is between 125% and 300%, that is how I can read and view images, even then I can miss details.
ubun7u43v3r
If you hold down the Ctrl key, you can then tap + to zoom in on web pages and – to zoom out. Note that this doesn’t always work for some web-based applications (like Java) but for casual browsing it works like a charm.
She’s probably just slightly near- or far-sighted, like she can’t read well without glasses or something. You don’t need to see sharp detail to beat the hell outta Blaine.
As someone with an astigmatism, I can do martial arts without my glasses, and my eyes are pret bad. Can still see shaps and distances well enough, and learning spacial awareness can work without full sight, or even blinded.
Shade
Same, though I might be blinking a little more than an average person based on how bright it is.
RandomRedMage
same here, astigmatism, i cant read or see much in the line of detail without my glasses, but spacial awareness is top notch. I think those of us with visual imparements tend to have a higher overall spacial awareness than those without. Just on the basis of necessity if nothing else. Need to know where things are, cause might not be able to SEE where it is. Helps navigating in near darkness too! 😀
RandomRedMage
also, apparently when posting from my phone, I am granted Danny as an avatar. go figure.
jaimehlers
I had both astigmatism and nearsightedness until I got it corrected. It’s the same thing that they do for cataract surgery, except instead of replacing the cornea, they implant an extra lens on top of it instead.
And yeah, I can speak for the spatial awareness thing too. I used to think that I didn’t have peripheral vision at all (because my vision was too blurry), but after I had that surgery, I found that my peripheral vision gives me almost 180 degrees of sight.
RandomRedMage
It might just be the way my head is shaped but, My periphiral vision, while like the rest of my vision not clear… I can actually see a wider degree of viewable space than most people I’ve noticed. I cant see ANY kind of detail, but I can see color, and shapes off to my side just a big behind me… it’s awfully distracting at times lol.
There are contact lenses that correct astigmatism. They are quite comfy.
bix902
I can concur on this point. When I first got contacts my opthamologist did not inform me that I had an astigmatism and every so often while I was wearing my contacts, if I stared too long at one area without focusing or just let my eyes drift slightly then my contacts would become unfocused and I would go “temporarily blind” as I used to put and I’d have to blink furiously to get my contacts back into focus. My contacts were like this for about 2 or 3 years before my opthamologist told me that I had an astigmatism and gave me weighted (toric) lenses.
NeoVachel
I can’t stand my toric lenses. Went back to normal glasses, even though I fight in Dagorhir Medieval Combat games.
vlademir1
For some they are, for others of us not so much.
Smarmodon
To me they feel like braces for my eyes. Like NeoVachel, I went back to regular contacts. My astigmatism is so minor, though, that it doesn’t really matter.
Keep in mind that even legally blind people can see “something.” We don’t know Amber’s prescription and most people who need glasses can see just fine enough unless they have to read something or navigate a playground full of children.
One of the best fighters I know is short-sighted to the point that he can’t clearly see anything more than about six feet away without his glasses, which he doesn’t wear when fighting. His take on it is, “When something comes into focus, either block it or hit it.”
I’m thinking that the acrobatics would be a bigger issue than the fighting, although who knows, maybe she didn’t know that she was jumping onto a truck until she landed.

how does amber see without her glasses?

Contacts, I’d assume.

Here’s what Walkyverse Amber has to say about it .

That Amber’s a bit older than this one.

Usually you become blind in righteous fury mode. Though it could be a superpower.

She’s not blind. Her vision’s probably just slightly impaired.

Actually, when you’re close to Blaine you don’t want to see his face in extreme detail, or you risk throwing up.
Rex Hondo
I’m thinking that, even close up, his features are kind of blurry at the moment.

It cometh up yesterday as well, and Willis sayeth she hath astigmatism, as does he.

No glasses doesn’t necessarily mean blind. Her eyesight could easily still be good enough to beat people up.
Alden
And only beaten to it by about a dozen people!

Just fine, thank you.
gangler
I assume there’s some place where people like her and The Riddler can have prescription lenses fitted to their masks.
PedanticJerkass
The same way that Strong Bad types with boxing gloves on.
Znayx
There’s an explanation way later on, but I’ll avoid linking something that far ahead.

The answer is harmless, comic is far enough that a click or two could be harmful though.
Toad
You tell ‘im.

Alright, so Danny ain’t a total failure.
Doctor_Who
Yeah, Danny gets at least a grudging “8” for that. I’d up it to 9 if he kicked him in the crotch.
Led
Hmm, I’m giving a full 9 here actually… For his unquestioning support and loyalty to Amber/Amazi-Girl… Amber-Girl?, his quick thinking and all
Dante
This 100%.

How much gasoline would you need to drink to have flammable urine?

Just go get that little dude from Farscape.
