Wait – Billie is ‘trying really hard to be a totally new person’? Aside from trying to deny she knows Walky, she seems to be doing precisely the opposite – trying to continue her popularity and success from HS into college. (Without realizing she needs to put the work in again, because she’s been reduced to ‘fresh meat’ status again.)
And even the Walky thing seems to be an amplification of their High School relationship, rather than a reversal.
Shut the f*ck up and move on with the conversation, Jesus -.-;;
When the RA has something to talk to you about its usually SERIOUS, so if you’d get your head from out your butt maybe she can tell you WHY shes “bothering” you and get this over with…Ruths not exactly smelling baskets of Roses talking to YOU either. :/
Why so much Billie hate? I personally love Billie and her high strung freak outs. I’d never be able to tolerate them in real life, but luckily there’s this monitor-thing between me and her so I can laugh at a distance. Shes just one of those that are fun to watch fail.
Eeeh, for me, personally, shes like the annoying character that single-handedly manages to ruin a good movie (like the kids in Jurassic Park)…I’ll be sitting there lolsing at the characters and loving the story and then suddenly BILLIE appears and I can’t stand to read one word of the strip knowing if shes in it its going to be something stupidly selfish, hoping nothing too important about the plot was missed.
I can’t speak for why others dislike her, though D:
I’m a Billie fan for the same reasons. Although I’d love to know Billie in real life – poking at someone’s insecurities, risking life and limb in the process, is always fun.
Addendum: I didn’t like Ruth before, but on the discovery that she puts her job before her own distaste for someone, I really like her now. Which probably says a lot about me.
Dahlia
Haha, see I’m surrounded (and tortured) in real life by Billie-types (in my apartment, at school…) so I’m actually kinda sick of this type of character (especially in a story I really like with nifty artwork I respect and a style I love)… and while I SHOULD find her failures hilarious I actually groan and hope to God shes not in the next panel.
Oh I ADORE Ruth, yeah, she was moody, but all she ever did was try to help Danny and get help from him and I was so happy that she ended showing some of that mentorish role in THIS universe when she was talking to Dorothy.
Tristan J
Hah, I sympathise. I used to love Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonists until a good deal of high school put me off that.
On Ruth, I reckon part of the appeal of DOA-Ruth comes from the fact that she’s the anti-Billie. She’s just as smug as Billie, but she actually has the ability (physically and intellectually) to pull off the shit she claims she can do. And unlike Billie, she doesn’t appear to let petty crap affect her – she’s going about her job with only a few snarky remarks.
For Billie fans, this means that her insecurities (i.e. her main appeal) are brought to the surface really quickly and obviously. For Billie haters, not only do they see her get shut down, but they have someone closer to their preferred character archetype (i.e. someone entirely unlike goddamn Billie) to enjoy. When you think about it, that’s pretty brilliant of Walky, from a writing standpoint.
I’m, um, rambling now 🙂
Dahlia
I dealt with bongoes like this all my life: Elementary school and Middle-school, especially after I got honors and won spelling bees, High school was also filled with these bongoes who hit on a guy I used to like (anti-climatically he choose a Billie-esque character, too) and, of course, I’m stuck with this type in college, as well (my ex-roommates that I had to transfer to get away from…) so thats why I get pissy when I have to see her, lol, I wanna get away fro that character, haha.
Hah, believe it or not, Ruth disliking Billie in DoA is a bonus, not the reason I lie her. I always admired how Ruth struggled to help Danny , despite all her problems, and even sacrificed herself for him…that…I’ll always give Ruth respect for that, no matter which universe.
So, since everything is changed and despite the fact that in this universe Mike could set things straight with Dina, karma-wise, (I have decided that karma applies across timelines.) I think Willis should put Ruth and Mike together. I want this only for my own gratification, as they could make everyone else cry.
Karma cannot work across universes. That would mean that another me could be out there doing bad stuff and I could get all the bad karma. And while I do nothing but good things, the bad me gets nothing but good stuff. It would make the very concept of karma pointless.
Karma has to work across universes. There has to be an alternate me out there doing good deeds. That’s the only explanation for why I don’t spontaneously turn into a cockroach as karmic backlash for the terrible things I do and say.

She’s prepared these arguments too. Just keep telling yourself that Billie.
Ancestral Hamster
Billie’s heart: “Help, help, I’m being repressed!” 😀
Joebo
Mmmm, Shakespeare and Monty Python? Could this get any better?
Pagannerd
There could be go-go boys.
Ragnal
It’s weird, seeing Ruth without suspenders.
JackNapier
Or being moody, for that matter.
Trae Dorn
DoA Ruth is ten kinds of angstless awesome.
David Herbert
I think she hit a nerve.
cappadocius
I also hate Billie and her problems.
David Herbert
She’s beating Sal in the poll to the right.
Not my fault though, I voted for Dina.
Randonimity
Seconding the hate for Billie. I liked her in Walkyverse but in DoA? I just want to hit her :/
Bwernard
hee hee, Billie’s pose on the last pannel is so reminiscent of Gallasso’s foiled pose! Someone should hand her something to crush.
Cha
Mike should be in the girl’s hall right now. I’m sure he could find her a razor blade or something.
Dierna
Well now… SOMEBODY’s certainly in a certain egyptian river….
Nichan
She hates you and your FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!
JackNapier
Ruth cares not for your insipid problems, Billie. Haven’t you been reading the script?
Someone
You know, for someone trying really hard to be a totally new person in college, she sure doesn’t know how to repress the old at all.

You know she can’t hear you, right? 😛

but it’s so much fun talking to the characters XD
especially since you can bongo at them all you want & they never get to say anything back 😀

Haha, I know, I know, I just sometimes get carried away ^^;;

Oh, cool, I thought DoA would be going on hiatus alongside SP! This has significantly brightened by day, and I’m only 32 minutes into it.
Clementine
I need to use that phrase more when speaking with people with issues.
TinyDoctorTim
Okay, this is disturbing. Billie & Danny hated each other in a previous incarnation, and look where they ended up.
Bickendan
Noticed that too, eh?
Decimatrix
I third this remark 😀
Brendan
Billie and Walky? Brr… kind of pseudo-incestuous.
JackNapier
Except…it’s not.

Billie and Ruth, then.

Ooooh, looking at this comment in hindsight…

I’m admit that this strip leaves me wondering Does she display this kind of energy in bed?
Well, someone’s got to wreck that piece of furniture sooner or later, super-powers or no.

bwahaha, XD I just hope whoever she ends up with makes her more tolerable! o:

arjay2813

first time i read it, i thought she said “i hate you and your face”
Joebo
FAAAAAAACE!
skippy
How about Billie and Ruth? This is Willis, you know.
beeftony
That already happened in the original Walkyverse. We just never got to see it.
Alexx
I missed ya, Ruth.
MrGBH
Hmmmmm. Two characters openly hating everything about each other? This means they must get together!
Qaxis
Someone’s got a crush.

Must finish BilliexWalky piece before week is up.

Trying to figure out the words that are covered up by Ruth’s word bubble: “Gonna s______ his scrawny ______ neck!”
Tristan J
I assume ‘strangle’ and ‘antidisestablishmentarianism’.
The second word is squished in a bit.
dchorror
Strangle and an f-bomb, probably.
Shift
I second Ruth’s feelings in the last panel.
thatgirlwiththeglasses
Yes! DoA is not on hiatus!
Oh, Billie, your words are only proving that love that you wish to deny…
