With the last strip’s punchline, I interpret Lucy’s rejection of this plan not being because she wouldn’t, but because her legs being asleep mean she probably can’t jump very well atm.
Maybe Lucy should try crawling over to Dorothy’s room, since her legs are probably still asleep right now. Though that might be pretty uncomfortable if she does that naked.
Fairly sure that last panel was inspired by a video going around the net of a very large, and very naked black lady running into a room and jumping crotch first into the camera.
Yeah, I think the point Socks is making is that Lucy’s relationship with Walky isn’t hanging by anything, she’s just hanging on and hoping at this point.
I’ve been there, it sucks, and tbh for her sake it’d be better if all chances (in her eyes) were obliterated sooner rather than later.
Devin
Okay, that wasn’t the point Socks was making!
Instead, let’s say that’s the point that I’m making.
That’s actually a topic of high debate. Some people think he’s so dense he hasn’t noticed, personally I don’t think he’s ever been shown to be that oblivious. I think he’s actually just not in the right mood to actually pursue a relationship right now so he’s not.
Devin
I think it’s possible he hasn’t noticed but not a slam dunk, although I don’t think it’s because he’s super oblivious, there’ always a layer of masking on seeing other people’s feelings for you.
But it’s also possible he’s just not interested in a relationship or just not interested in her, although in that case it’s kind of lousy of him to know and not say anything. Definitely in the scope of his level of desire to deal with emotional conversations, but still pretty lousy.
NotThatDrew
I mean, we’re dealing with a bunch of college freshmen trying to figure out how to be adults (hell, I’m in my mid twenties and still making shit up as I go). Lousy is to be expected at least a couple times
Devin
Absolutely true, and part of what keeps this all interesting!
Get comfortable with that “making it up as you go” feeling. I’m in my 40s now, and it is still with me often.
“Being a grownup” appears to be largely a thing that exists only in the minds of children – I think we all just keep faking it until we die.
Needfuldoer
Yeah, I’m closing in on 35 but I don’t feel all that different than I did when I was 20 . (Well, aside from the normal stuff like aches and pains, and that snacks tend to stick around longer than they used to…)
Sombrero
Or until we fake our death, like Mike.
Clif
Yeah, we’ll see how long he can pull off being both Booster and Jennifer.
NotThatDrew
Oh, I’ve absolutely accepted it. Hell, I’ve been telling the high school students that I mentor that while having even a general idea/plan thought out can be useful, you always need to be flexible enough to change that plan and just roll with the punches depending on how things outside of your control unfold.
I think that since Lucy hasn’t made a move yet there’s just enough ambiguity in her intentions to justify him not rejecting her if he recognizes her feelings. Unless one of them decides to actually intentionally pursue anything beyond friendship they’re kind of in this stalemate. This is the framework for basically every teenage romcom ever.
Devin
Yeah, that’s fair.
thejeff
Yeah, since she’s not pushing the issue, it would be kind of awkward to force it himself just to shut it down. Also, even if he’s noticed, he’s likely not sure, so it would be even weirder to reject her when he could still be wrong.
He’s so clearly not interested that her clinging is just kinda sad
Clif
She’s enjoying hanging around him and he likes the attention and having someone to hang around. She also may be learning something that will help her out later when it’s more important.
Reece from Malcolm in the Middle actually tried a similar thing with a girl…. …with less than desirable results.
Whatever Lucy winds up doing, my only hope is that she doesn’t merely revive the past. There is one thing worse than a broken wheel, and that’s reinventing a broken wheel.
Only just noticed the Force Awakens General Leia poster and Last Jedi poster in their room. What do you wanna bet it’s secretly Billie’s and not Lucy’s, given her whole closeted-fan thing? Sort of like the arrangement where Joyce convinced everyone that Sarah put up Halloween decorations just to get a rise out of her?
I’m pretty sure we saw those posters already up when we first saw this room (when Jennifer was just moving in), or if not in that specific scene than definitely during some of the other Jennifer-Lucy interactions prior to the former’s attempt at self-sabotage by admitting her closet nerdiness among other things. (Would search to find an example, but on phone atm.)
The only posters I’m finding in previous comics before the timeskip are Starfire and Dexter & Monkey Master. So unless someone with better searching skills shows otherwise, this closeted fan theory seems to check out.

Jennifer is always there with the helpful advice though.

The flying crotch tackle IS difficult to pull off with a case of the jellies. Difficult, but not impossible
Yumi
Fits with her glancing down at her legs in this strip, too.
Suet
Must be the jellies progressing.
Somebody roll Lucy over to Dorothy’s room.
Delicious Taffy
The next stage is her legs seizing up and a horrible, agonising pins-and-needles sensation. I don’t envy this gal.

Durandal_1707
Also, she seems to suddenly be approximately the size of a two-year-old, which can’t help.
NotThatDrew
Dammit, now I can’t unsee that

Oh no! She caught the same disease as President Carter!!

Lucy’s relationship with Walky is hanging by the weak thread of two mutually attracted to each other teenagers not boning!
Socks
Uh, is Walky even attracted to Lucy? He seems extraordinarily uninterested from everything we’ve seen.
Yumi
The two being referred to are Dorothy and Walky.
Socks
Yeah that makes more sense
Devin
Yeah, I think the point Socks is making is that Lucy’s relationship with Walky isn’t hanging by anything, she’s just hanging on and hoping at this point.

Keep in mind also that Walky only discovered an interest in ladies a few months ago. He is NOT worldly-wise in the ways of love.

Easy up, there, not everybody’s a Dina.
Then again, should we check back on Daisy to see if Jenny’s love tactics work?
Doctor_Who
Highly successful. Daisy and Ruth are on round 17 and still not tired of smashing!
…Thank goodness Ruth thought to bring her Switch and Smash Bros Ultimate on their date, it’s such a good icebreaker!

Was she though? We have yet to see if her advice pans out.

Alright Willis, now I KNOW you’re baiting me.
Delicious Taffy
The real question is, are you or are you not a river trout?
Clif
I’m betting the answer is yes. He either is or is not.
Reltzik
… would an estuary trout count?
Clif
While many animals you wouldn’t expect have been shown to count as high as three, I don’t believe an estuary trout is among them.
Reltzik
Right, right, but is there actually any rule against an estuary trout being ennobled and given the title of count?
Clif
Well, yes, but in such a case it would be the one who ennobled the fish, rather than the estuary trout itself, who was doing the counting.
Reltzik
But “counting” also refers to continuing in the state of being a count.
Clif
Can you count on something that passive actually counting though?
Demoted Oblivious
Willis is a master at it. One might call them Yoto’s master-baiter. Do with THAT what you will Yoto!
Rabisch
And you let him do that without reactions? DO IT!!!! We all want to see your interpretation! Please♡.
Clif
Are you trying to get Willis or Yoto in trouble?
Yotomoe
Is Jennifer’s plan for Lucy to perform a Frankenstiener on Walky? It is one of the sexiest suplexes to perform on someone.
NotThatDrew
It’d win me over, at least
Wizard
Sounds more like a Thesz press.
Charles Spencer
I thought the Frankensteiner was a bad-ass move, but Steiner’s Tilt-A-Whirl was both a better move and a better name.

Just now noticing the starfire poster, and now I just want a wide shot of all the posters in Lucy’s room.

I get a very “metal gear rising” vibe from the red one on the far right, but I *highly* doubt that’s what it is.
