I was never a birthday fan. If you didn’t get a day off school for it, it wasn’t an important occasion.
I guess I’d single out my tenth as pretty awesome, though. Got both the original Star War trilogy on VHS and my first ever Weird Al tapes. You don’t forget formative experiences like that! ^_^
Where I grew up, you didn’t get the day off, but the class celebrated it. My birthday is mid-June, so I never got that. Once I turned 21, I pretty much stopped thinking of or even anticipating them. All they do now is remind me that I’m an old fart.

As an adult it was just too depressing until I started celebrating at GenCon. Which was all well and good until it moved to Indianapolis and housing was impossible to get. sigh

I tend to think that if adult birthdays are bullshit that you’re doing them wrong.

I know what you mean by conveyor sushi, however my initial mental picture when I read that, was a conveyor aimed at your face, with sushi being belt fed into your mouth.
I liked the one where I turned maybe 15 and all my internet friends build random things on roblox with me the whole day. It was nice to feel the loves!

I don’t find it plausible that Becky was fooled by the fake sitcom snores, so I’m thinking that she was kind enough and perceptive enough to take a hint!
I’ve faked being asleep to avoid having to deal with people before, but I’ve never just spoke the words “snore snore” to make people think I was asleep. Kinda surprised Becky fell for that.
Communication in comics is composed of two parts, a bubble and a tail.
A standard circular bubble indicates normal speech, a dashed bubble indicates whispers, a jagged one indicates shouting, and cloudy bubbles indicate inner thoughts.
For tails, a straight line indicates normal speech, a line of bubbles indicates thoughts, and a squiggly line indicates non-speech sounds.
There are also two variants to the squiggly line, for alternative meanings:
The first has the squiggly line also accompanied by a squiggly bubble, and indicates that the speech is unclear (such as due to the speaker being weak) and thus more sound-like than speech-like. The second has the squiggly line with sharp edges [like a lightning bolt symbol], indicating that it’s both speech and sound [as by way of a robotic voice].
In short, assuming Willis (with his decades of experience at comic writing) is going by the standard formatting, we can determine that Sarah is actually mimicking the sounds, rather than vocalizing the onomatopoeic term.
I think my favorite birthday was because of the roller coaster of emotions. I thought my family had forgotten (a legit fear seriously my family including my mom forgets my birthday a lot) because my dad took me with him to do yardwork at my Nana’s house. Then he sprayed me down with a hose and wouldn’t let me ride in the car instead I had to walk home with him following me in the car.
Really it wasn’t that far but at that age it felt like forever. When I got home though my Nana had beaten us there and all of my family was there yelling surprise. It was awesome.
I am considering buying some of the DoA books, but I have two questions about them.
1) Are there still ebooks of books 7 and 8? Comixology only has digital versions of books 1-6, while Hivemill only has books 1 and 2. Is there any place I can buy the more recent ebooks, or are my only options buying the print book or waiting for the next Kickstarter?
2)Do the bonus strips in the books have a lot of nudity in them? I’m probably in the minority, but I really dislike seeing nudity in comics (and other visual media). I don’t mind it on rare occasions, but if it happens a lot then it detracts from my enjoyment of the comic. I understand that some people like seeing it (hence why people pay for Slipshine), but I don’t, and I sort of want to know what I’m getting before buying the DoA books and/or ebooks.
