I like to think that this is the sort of situation that gets campus security involved and asking questions like ‘Didn’t we say ‘One more strike and you’re out’ after you were involved in a murder-kidnapping?’

At least on the Indianapolis campus, the campus security people can do that. They’re sworn officers attached to the city police department.

Incelerator and his dudebro minions would probably try snd skew it to look like Amazi-Girl was too scared to go after her, because she’s a cowardly girl who needs a big strong man to fight her battles for her.

Maybe it’s my ADHD talking, but I’d rather see something that’s fun without the not-fun stuff. He’s boring and makes the interesting characters look like inept wimps for even acknowledging him this long.

Amazi-Girl is fun and hot and I want at least one 20cm plush of her IRL, so at least we’ve got that going.

        3. Wraithy2773

          12/20/2024, 5:41 am

Yeah, that’s kinda where I am too. He’s just not interesting, his threat level seems to ping-pong between “actually something to worry about” and “complete joke”, and him being allowed to just run away unscathed like this is massively unsatisfying.

Maybe its just modern times I’m grappling with, but what about this situation calls for de-escalation? Nothing is stopping him from doing this crap again, and he’s shown not just a willingness but an eagerness to employ violence against others.

          I’d rather see a Sarah/Raidah-centric story arc over this…

        4. thejeff

          12/20/2024, 8:43 am

What about beating him up stops him from doing this again? She doesn’t know it, but AG’s beaten him up before and here he is.

Getting the cops involved has its own drawbacks and probably wouldn’t really do much anyway.

        5. Wraithy2773

          12/20/2024, 1:07 pm

“X might not work” isn’t a reason to do nothing at all, though. Deescalation still requires that you actually try to address the problem in question.

The problem isn’t solved. Kicking the can down the road to when he comes back to hurt more people, which he’s shown a clear eagerness to do, is just a bad idea.

        6. thejeff

          12/20/2024, 1:32 pm

Is this an argument for just beating the crap out of him? Or for calling the cops?

        7. thejeff

          12/20/2024, 2:04 pm

And just to dive a little farther into it: Back in the kidnapping there was a lot of talk about not calling the cops because they’d just shoot the wrong person, but the reality is this kind of low stakes confrontation is when calling the cops really does make things more dangerous.

        8. Wraithy2773

          12/20/2024, 9:58 pm

How about just ripping off that mask, taking some pictures, and letting everyone know who this douchebag is? And yeah, might have to knock him around some more to make that happen, but he’s a cringy asshole that’s committing unprovoked assaults on others. Dude deserves to be the internet’s main character for a day, at the least.

        9. Taffy

          12/20/2024, 10:32 pm

Or they could just shoot him. It’s not like he’s important, he’s a bit character who won’t be remembered a week after he’s dead.

I think the elevator shaft comes first, with either an alligator pool or a raptor pit at the bottom. The refrigerator is in the morgue and the incinerator comes afterwards.

        2. Thomas

          12/20/2024, 3:25 am

…. or do you mean Incelerator? I’m not thinking of him as the root problem. He’s more like a symptom. It lets me file him in the same category as a pus-filled boil or uncontrollable diarrhea.

I only have the ones in my hick-ass backwoods tri-county area as a sample size, so there’s probably some skew, but most toddlers I’ve encountered were total dipshits. Little morons couldn’t even do a basic BLJ in Mario 64.

        2. Kimi

          12/20/2024, 1:45 am

I have a 4 year old niece who is living in a rural area and I would say that she has more manners than this guy. She also used to be quieter, as preschool taught her to be louder. She does like attention, but as a kid who was born in 2020 and whose mother worked with the elderly or health compromised (so had greater worries for covid), her options for socialization were quite limited and normally only adult family.
You can really get a broad spectrum on toddlers though. I have known some that can easily amuse themselves and are quite calm while others are overflowing with energy and will do anything for attention. Most pre-school aged kids that I have known absolutely love to help out, but aren’t always the greatest at doing the task. I even remember a tiff that broke out when I was in kindergarten about who was going to help the new kid the most (showing him around, etc, as his family was military and just got moved from Hawaii to Maine). While there can be some biological causes for misbehavior (red dye, ADHD etc), a lot of kids at that age tend to misbehave because they have learned it from someone, normally their parents.
How often do problematic students at school have parents at home that don’t like them going to school and tell them that they shouldn’t respect the teachers or don’t care about the kid’s wellbeing? I knew several growing up, including one girl who was well behaved and loved school even though her parents hated school and would try to prevent her from going sometimes. Her older brother, on the other hand, would threaten to kill people or other violence.

        3. Taffy

          12/20/2024, 2:48 pm

Okay, but can your niece do a BLJ up the staircase?

Assholes like this talk about nostalgia in terms of an imagined version of the past, when things were better because trust me bro.

Maybe its the 80s or the 60s or something else, but it doesn’t have to remotely reflect actual history in order to be used in this manner.

He’s talking about the time before women had any freedom. Like when they had to get married to a man to do anything. They couldn’t own a house, couldn’t get a credit card, etc. It was easier to find a girl that wanted to marry a dipshit in these times. So yes he’s not talking about his past AT ALL.

I have heard some people that claim that they want to debate but then want the format to be so limiting that it is beneficial to them (like only using sources that they approve of, like fox news, or only specific articles from a news site). There is also a lot of “evidence of absence” and other types of debates where someone just throws every made up idea at the wall and leaves you trying to provide proof of how false it all is. If someone says that this conspiracy, ideal or thing is real without any evidence and then expects you to provide evidence that it is not real, it can easily descend into being a logical fallacy.

Gish galloping typically doesn’t involve any sourcing as the point is to tell so many rapid fire lies that the other person gets flustered about what lies to debunk first. It’s obscenely effective against people with a stutter like Joe Biden has.

        4. thejeff

          12/20/2024, 1:42 pm

It’s not even about being flustered, it’s that it’s a lot faster to tell a lie than to debunk one, so when you throw a bunch out, your opponent can’t get through them all in the allotted time.
Best case, there’ll be one that they don’t know the response for off the top of their head, so they’ll look bad.

Does the “dur hur mom’s basement” thing work outside the USA? I thought people in most parts of the world lived with their families past 18 without it being seen as something inherently mockable.

Also, times is hard and rent is expensive, even if we accept that living with a parent (somehow it’s never “father’s basement”) is pathetic (we don’t), and it’s classiest to mock people who don’t wanna spend 90% of their money living alone just because it’s more socially acceptable.

That’s the thing though. Trauma is still experience, our brains collect information and build strategies out of them. Someone who experienced harsh conditions will develop habits that will help them avoid or survive those conditions. They might not be able to live a happy, healthy life but they will Live, which is the most important thing from nature’s perspective.

Mostly what the trauma give you is false signals of what is and what isn’t a danger, and not always the tools necessary to handle those dangers, real or imaginary. You are kind of using the “Pain make you tough” mentality that is usually not true or helpful. (A good example is the Bojack horseman episode “good damage” where one of the characters want to write a book about her abusive upbringing, but she just can’t because those painful experience didn’t actually teach her anything, or inspired anything, or make her a survivor or whatever, they were just awful.)

That’s rarely how social norms work, but even so when there are strong obvious reasons like her financial troubles to stay at home, but she wanted to move out anyway, that would raise questions.
Given that living independently is seen as a positive thing, that provides a socially acceptable reason to get out even if it’s financially hard, so the question of why she urgently wants to do so doesn’t come up.

The problem is real Incelerator’s are way more dangerous and him escaping just gives his young, disgruntled, white male who has watched too much alt right youtube self a chance to come back with his dad’s rifle. That reality undercuts the wackiness a bit which some have mentioned already.

          12/20/2024, 1:12 am

With this much fatherless behavior, I think that rifle is out of the question.

I’m going to take a wild stab in the dark that not many incels are reading Dumbing of Age and taking inspiration for their life from it. He’s a stupid but fun villain.

        3. Taffy

          12/20/2024, 1:27 am

I figure there’s about as many incels reading this for life advice as there are people paying for Willis’s porn Patreon and then leaving weird right-wing nonsense in the comments there.

I really hope that’s specific enough to work as an example.

        4. Charles Phipps

          12/20/2024, 1:33 am

I stand corrected and feel worse about the world.

But I will say that it is the “there’s no such thing as an anti-war film.” In the fact the Incelerator must be entertaining and colorful to be a fun character but many people wouldn’t want an incel to be fun.

        5. Taffy

          12/20/2024, 2:00 am

I’m not sure this reply makes sense to me. Did someone actually do the thing I said? I’m not on that Patreon, but I assume nobody would be enough of a dope to do the thing.

As for the “no such thing” part, I recommend basically anything by Studio Ghibli.

          12/20/2024, 1:45 pm

Yeah, that’s the telling part. There are plenty of positive portrayals of Christians in the comic – Becky being another prominent one. So when you dig deeper into why they don’t count …

        12. Taffy

          12/20/2024, 7:48 pm

Becky’s gay, Jacob and Lucy are Black, Sierra’s both. Is that what you’re dancing around saying?

I love team rocket but I’m not sure I would vibe with a villain who was a white supremacist and had a ku klux klan pun in their name to be cartoonishly and harmlessly blown away into the horizon

“That reality undercuts the wackiness a bit” personally I think it’s the opposite: the wackiness undercuts whatever (if any?) message was being said about incels being dogshit people. now they’re just fun wacky!

        15. Jeremiah

          12/20/2024, 8:34 am

I really don’t know what any of what this guy has been doing has looked as “fun wacky”. Literally everyone has been clamoring and anticipating when he gets the shit beaten out of him, and celebrating when he did. I think you guys might had gotten too into your own heads to actually see how the actual audience react to the character.

        16. 3oranges

          12/20/2024, 1:42 am

“Vaguely hostile acts of annoyance” like punching someone in the gut hard enough to knock them over? I know everyone is in costume, but in real life getting hit by a stranger is actually really serious.

        17. Taffy

          12/20/2024, 2:03 am

What, are we just ignoring that Walky started the fight with his 12-hit combo? He showed up, announced himself, and then let loose with a ?️?️?️?️⬇️↘️➡️↗️⬆️? before Incelerator could even react.

        18. Michael Steamweed

          12/20/2024, 9:19 am

Isn’t that the secret combo that makes people orgasm instantly?

(or did i mix up the left and right arrow again…dang that left-right disorder.)

        19. Taffy

          12/20/2024, 1:14 pm

It’s a very similar string, but that one opens with ?️ instead of ?️. The light attack is important. Now, if Walky had hit this guy with the Cream O’ The Clothesline, I might have been more on his side, just fot the sheer audacity.

        20. Sirksome

          12/20/2024, 4:35 am

I think that’s kind of within the point being brought up. How serious a threat are we supposed to take Incelerator. On one hand, yes he hurt Nightguy, on the other hand, Nightguy is shown as kind of a joke himself and no offense to Walky but he’s not a fighter. Amazi-Girl handled him instantly. So is Incelerator someone we should be worried about showing up again because he might hurt someone, or should we be excited if he shows up again because it gives us some cool,, low stakes Amazi-Girl action?

        21. Jeremiah

          12/20/2024, 8:36 am

Time for Amazi-Girl to deputize Carla, maybe. It’s be nice to see Incelerator try this shit again, only to have Carla (or whatever her superhero name may be) just zoom up and clothesline him.

Or, like, any of the other roller derby girls, for that matter. Or… I guess Amazi-Girl could just wear her own skates next time.

Anyway, just so long as Incelerator gets clotheslined. That’s the crux of the matter.

Nah, that requires a ship. And I know ships are more than common in the comments section, but it has to be the kind you can actually drag someone under while it’s afloat.

Fine, I’m pretty sure there’s a way that can all happen metaphorically with comment-shipping as well.

Anyhow, clotheslining is just one of Amazi-Girl’s specialities: https://www.dumbingofage.com/2014/comic/book-4/03-up-all-night-to-get-vengeance/roller-derby/

You know, long shot speculation. Dude punched Walky. And no one in the scene seems to have recognized the Incelerator, though I’m holding out hope for Dina.
