Two days left to collect pledges for a Tricerahoodie Dina plush! If we reach 200 pledges by Thursday, Dina will be made! That sounds pretty rad, I dunno! Run over there if you want to help make this happen. How many

“She said, that’s what.”
— Yoda
Aquila
Noooo… I think in Yoda-speak it should be:
“That, what she said is.”
…
Okay… checked with an online -quote- translator -unquote-, and that gave me
“What she said, that is. Hmmmmmm.”
Steamweed
Lucas wasn’t always completely consistent with Yoda’s grammatic shifts. But, yeah, I like “What she said, that is.”
Olofa
Oh, for the sake of Pete!
Fnord
I think Yoda’s native language is like Russian, where word order is used mostly for emphasis rather than grammatical structure.

“Atsthay atwhay eshay aidsay.”

Good Job Joe! (re: alt text)
Rose by Any other Name
To be fair, only one of those is even moderately funny when followed by a “that’s what she said”.

I think the others are a bit funnier when you remember they’re gonna be surrounded by huffing and grunting.

Heheh… “How much time left?”
Masumi
I beg to differ. Those are hilarious.

And that is why you were wise to come to Joe.

Not just a good Joe, but a good spotter.
Needfuldoer
“Good Joe. Damn good Joe.”
– The crazed Turkish guy from that M*A*S*H episode
Steamweed
Ahhh, M*A*S*H. An ancient name for an ancient time. A better on-screen war-protest production was never made.
Needfuldoer
Bango!
Roborat
Have you read the books the show was inspired by?
steph
I wasn’t aware that there were books! I only saw the movie with Donald Sutherland and Elliot Gould and I thought the show was just based on that.
Needfuldoer
Most of the books aren’t even set in Korea, they’re set in the US long after the war.
The TV series is only loosely based on the premise of the movie and first book. (And it really starts to become its own thing starting with season 4.) About the only things that are the same are the character names, the outdoor camp set, and Gary Burghoff as Radar.
Nono
Ah yes… Exercise.
I will say that I prefer doing things in sets rather than doing one really long exercise like a 5km run.
Theluxland
I’m so out of shape that I have this exact set of emotion while getting two flights of stairs. I just have exercice (and moving in general) so much.

On the one hand doing a big loop means you can’t bail out halfway.

I have tried many times to get women friends to lift weights. It is an excellent way to get healthy in a way most women haven’t tried so early workouts make a big splash.
They seem to think they with look like Jordynne Grace after two trips if they pick up a 15lb dumbbell too many times. Madness.

we’re always here for a Jordynne Grace mention #sayyestojackedwomen

Yeah, societal programming is a hell of a drug.

everytime i see someone be like “oh i’d like to work out more but I don’t want to end out looking like (insert muscle mommy here) so I’m nervous” and I’m like bruh! do you know how hard it is to look that good? trust me, you’ll be fine, just try the gym!
Darknesse
Yes, it’s a common problem to become way too jacked for a tiny little bit of effort.
NGPZ
YES only 28 more people need to contribute for the DINA PLUSH to happen
STIMMING SO MUCH EEEEEK ^-^ <3

Oh hey, thank you, I somehow missed this entirely until seeing your comment. I’m in for one, now.
True Survivor
Is that a lot? I honestly don’t know exactly how large the fan base for this comic is. It seems that no more than a few hundred are active participants in the comment board, as while I doubt even most regular commenters are here every night(day?), the number of comments per strip rarely approaches 400 and then only with many commenters posting more than once. The “votey” poll number would suggest the audience is far larger – a few thousand at least, but I don’t know what percentage of the total readership is engaged with those polls.
I also have no real idea how much of a given fanbase would be willing to buy a stuffed character. I would suspect it would depend on the demographics (for example, I would suspect women would me more easily convinced to buy this sort of product as men would be afraid keeping such a thing in their room would be unmanly and get them mocked by their friends and family).
Only Mr. Willis knows the hidden statistics, I would guess.
Taffy
Only a few dozen of us are inclined to comment at all, much less daily. I wouldn’t put too much stock in that number versus the amount of people who want a cute little plushie of a character from the comic.
Also, a lot of us are incredibly fucking intense with our comments, so there’s a good chance lots of folks who otherwise would comment are intimidated in the grounds that they might get dogpiled for not meeting the same level of intensity. Now, they’re right to worry, I’ll fucking cut them if they don’t like my favorite characters as much as me, but they still read it and probably like at least one character enough to buy a wee stuffie.
Kyulen
I suspect there’s probably a lot of people who read these comics but rarely or never comment.
Trut
Like me! I read the comments enough to recognize regulars but rarely feel like jumping in myself.
Opus the Poet
That’s the normal situation for just about any website. I have a blog and I admin 2 others.usual commenter to reader is about 1:1100. Except for when I say something controversial like instituting the death penalty for fatal hit-and-run wrecks. Boy howdy did I get some comments about that page. You would think I was calling for beating puppies to death. I’m not fond of dogs but I prefer euthanize by petting to death, the puppy equivalent to death by snu-snu.
bibulb
I think a stronger clue would be the Kickstarter pledge counts – like, I’ve been reading this for well over a decade at this point, but I barely ever comment or take part in the polls. On the flip side of that, I’ve been a patreon backer at a not-huge-but-not-tiny-either tier since the patreon started, and I’ve backed every kickstarter at the magnets levels for each and every one. I suspect there’s a large number of fans who are interested in things like this but don’t take a strongly active and direct role in the fandom.
(Then again on the other hand, plushies are a different kind of attraction for folks from the actual content in books, which would explain the difference between the Kickstarter numbers and the current Makeship count, so I dunno.)
Tan
Willis’s non-lewd patreon has 4,843 members as of current. The last couple of DoA print collection kickstarters have gotten ~1000 backers apiece. Make of that what you will
NGPZ
that’s the spirit!
We can make Dina Plush happen!!! JUST 25 SUPPORTERS TO GO!!!
Spread the word!!! MAKE A SPIRIT BOMB!!!!

Seriously? I’m surprised it didn’t fill up within an hour! Willis should be doing stretch goals at this point! What’s wrong with you people! Call yourselves fans? It’s a Hoodie Dina Plushie, ferchrissakes! Triceratops, even! Why is there still money in your pockets?!?!
Nymph
Hoodie Dina I do not need. Dina Hoodie I would have pledged in a heartbeat.
NGPZ
Yeah I’d love to have a Tricero-Top™ too! ^^

This reminds me of the rehab I’m just getting out of. I was scaring the other patients because I was ripping off sets y500 reps. I would get off the machine and they would not be able to get the first rep done. That’s when I started scaring the other patients.
Steamweed
I see Joe’s future career in physical therapy.
Nono
Personal trainer would probably be a closer fit to what he’s doing now.
Steamweed
Also a good future career.
Nymph
I really want him to pursue his interest in being a chef.
Sirksome
He can actually do both as nowadays physical training often involves developing entire meal plans that are client specific. It requires health, fitness, and culinary knowledge. It really depends on what Joe wants to do.
Annarchy
Il n’y a pas de Joe.
ZombieKyrik
I feel like Sarah has underestimated how difficult it is to get into shape.
Not that’s impossible, but I feel she doesn’t understand yet. Yes? No? Other thoughts?
DashWallkick
I mean that’s kind of the joke the comic outlines. Everyone starting exercise goes “Wait, sets?? MULTIPLE sets?!”
Gigafreak
I used to be comically weak. Like, “cartoon nerd who can barely do everyday tasks” weak.
A friend suggested I take up weightlifting, so I signed up to a gym. And I was quite surprised at how quickly I made progress. Within a few weeks, my strength was approaching a normal person’s. Within a few months, I became the one my coworkers asked to handle literal heavy lifting. I kind of plateaued since there was a weight threshold I did not want to exceed without a spotter, and I eventually unsubscribed from the gym.
Enlarged muscles happened basically immediately, but this is because they swell up temporarily right after a proper training session.
Bittersweet
Wait, you can do just however many you can manage in a minute and repeat that? That almost sounds fun.
DailyBrad
Yeah, like obviously working out can be work, hence the name, but there are a number of reasons people who stick with it do. There is fun to be hand in a way, particularly if you’re the kind of person who likes challenging personal bests. No wonder Amber can stick with it, though obviously she has other motivations, too.
BYM!
Every time a gamer makes the connection between exercise and leveling up the world trembles
Yumi
Often, it seems exercise has been pitched to adults in the most boring ways possible. But it can be fun– both in what activities you select and how you approach them. I let my gym membership lapse, but I do enjoy using weight machines– cardio at the gym is often boring, so I’ll try to find other sources for it instead.
Recently when I was needing more movement, I started climbing around on some new decent sized play structures. I would feel weird doing this with kids around, admittedly, so that’s on pause for the summer. I also thought about getting a membership to one of those trampoline places, but the one that had been close to me moved.
Li
Any type of vaguely running-ish cardio is improved by listening to Sonic the Hedgehog remixes, imho.
Sub in whatever video game with high-intensity music you played most as a kid, though. It’s not just the specific type of music lending itself well to running, it’s definitely also the nostalgia taking you back to a point in your life where something like running around outside was closest to being fun… I bet boss battle music would also work.
Yumi
Even as far back as elementary school gym class, I would create imaginary scenarios for running when we had to do laps around the gym. Like, I’m actually a spy escaping a secret base that has a bunch of twisting, turning hallways. Adding a musical score would be cool.
thejeff
The Zombies, Run! app taps in to that approach.
Li
Shoutout specifically to Zombies Run 5k from me! I really wish the main app worked as well for me, or that there was a Zombies Run 10k with the same structure, but their 5k app really did a better job than any similar product I’ve tried to get me jogging without hurting myself by doing too much to soon. ?
And they’ve got other stories too, there’s a licensed bunch of Marvel based stories in the main Zombies Run app. I just miss being told specifically to pause for knee lifts and skipping and stuff.
Thing2
There weren’t video games when I was a kid! But I do have to run around after sheep a fair bit. Does lifting hay bales count?
Li
Hey, any song that makes you wanna move counts. ? I bet movie soundtracks would also help. There’s probably nothing better than the soundtrack from the first Rocky music for a whole bunch of people!
Li
*Rocky movie lol ffff
