But some people (Such as Jabberwocky, No0ne and myself) have actually chosen to use avatars based on these characters. So that means we know their effect on others perceptions and have chosen to roll with it anyways.
Most of this thread makes absolutely no sense now because several of the avatars are apparently no longer what they were when the original posts were made.
It was an injoke on the old forums, as I recall. Pre-Resurrection, the Head Alien had the hand on the left side; POST-Resurrection, the hand was on the right.
This links to Sinister and Dexter (the latter being the right-handed), though I can’t exactly remember how. I seem to recall it has something to do with Latin.
Sinister is from the Latin for left-handed, Dexter for right-handed. Because of the way formal togas are worn, left hands were often hid underneath multiple folds of robes, and so people hid objects in their left hand — stolen objects, knives, etc. Thus the “sinister” hand because associated with wickedness, while the right hand, used for gesturing, became known for fine hand movements.
