Joyce is the author avatar, at least she was back in the “Roomies/It’s Walky!” days. Willis specifically said so himself, when discussing how Joyce’s development morally and religiously was pretty much parallell to his own.
In this timeline, however, he probably has reset her mind, but of course cannot reset his own accordingly, which may be why Joyce comes off as weirder now than before.
I think this is the first time we’ve actually seen Billie afraid of one person, in this or any other continuity. She faced off with Sal in IW! without blinking an eye, and even in the fight with Ruth on day one she was too surprised to be afraid.
Billie was older then. She had lost Ruth, fallen in love, graduated from college, and found rewarding employment. She had confidence in herself as an adult. She doesn’t have confidence now (see her falling back on her cool past frequently). It makes sense that she scares easier.
That sort of thing is both why I have a gravatar set, and why I REGRET it being set….
One of these days I’ll mung my email just to see what I get…

Pecking orders are funny. It’s something chickens do – you know chickens, flightless birds who can survive with their head cut off until they die of starvation – and that humans have decided are worthwhile to emulate, on purpose, on large scales, legitimized with entire institutions built up around it. Because life’s not worth living unless you get to ruin someone’s day who haven’t done anything to you, I guess?
I find it funny because it’s so completely absurd.
